I Am Running 1400 Kilometers Across Pakistan 🇵🇰

I am about to do something that might make you question my sanity. This November, I will be running, walking and probably hobbling 900 miles (1,440 kilometers) across Pakistan in just 35 days. I might very well be the first person ever to do this!

The goal? To raise 1 million USD for The Citizens Foundation (TCF), a non-profit operating 1921 schools in Pakistan. This is not just a physical challenge but a symbolic journey, retracing my educational path as I go from my high school, Cadet College Hasan Abdal, to my undergrad college, IBA Karachi, on foot.

Who is Tabarak Rehman & why is he acting like Forest Gump?

Great question! Many of you know me as the dude from Instagram who helps with higher education in the US. But did you know I also love running? Yes, I am combining my 2 passions.

If you don’t know me – Hi, I am a 27-year-old finance professional living in New York City, with roots that trace back to Kashmir. My educational journey took me from the dorm rooms of Cadet College Hasan Abdal to the classrooms at IBA Karachi, and then Northeastern University, Boston. Professionally, I have been an equity research analyst at a hedge fund and now I am a turnaround and restructuring consultant.

My true inspiration comes from my father, a pioneer in education in rural Taxila. In 1991, he opened the first private school in an area where there was no school within an 8-mile radius and went on to establish 16 schools. His dedication to education instilled in me a profound desire to give back. This run is my tribute to his legacy and a step towards making quality education accessible to all.

One of my best friends works as an engineer at a Silicon Valley tech company, another friend is a research analyst at Wall Street. Their families couldn’t afford their early education. Had it not been for The Citizens Foundation, they wouldn’t have been able to even dream the dream.

Pakistan is home to 26 million out-of-school children (2nd highest in the world). The quality of education is often substandard, and many smart kids never even see the inside of a classroom. TCF is the world’s largest independent network of schools, operating 1921 schools in communities that lack even basic amenities like running water and electricity. TCF has produced success stories that would make top private schools blush.

By fundraising $1mm, we can help TCF support the education of 7,000 out-of-school children and produce more global leaders that come from nothing and go to Silicon Valley and Wall Street.
